Yesterday we were learning about fractions. The easy part was to problem solve the question with as much strategies as possible, not any strategies high level strategies. The hard part was nothing because I found these kind of fractions easy.
For example:
5/12 of 24 = 10
24 ÷ 12 = 2
2 x 5 = 10
I am a student at Bay of Islands College in Kawakawa, New Zealand. This is a place where I share my learning.

Taumarere History
On June 23 1921 a group of local people met in Pakaru School set up a new building as a memorial to the men of the district who fell in the World War 1, and for the community. The original Management Committee comprised JJ Ware, H Doel, HL Irving, J Doel jnr, CS Goodhue, E Doel, and G Simpson and land was donated by Bert Goodhue.

Kapa Haka
What enjoyed the about being a Kai Haka when I performed was that I had the privilege to be on the stage and perform. I felt whakama at first but I got use to it and just wanted to focus so we don't loose marks. My favourite item waka the Whakaeke and haka in our Whakawatea. I think I need to improve on always singing and trying to reach high notes.

Taumarere Trip
On the second week of school we went for a ride on the train to Taumarere and learnt about Taumarere back in the olden day. Then we went for a walk on the longest standing bridge in New Zealand in Taumarere then carried on, on the tracks. When we were walking we had a scavenger hunt to complete, we had to find native birds, non native birds, native trees and stuff like that. When we find them we show a teacher or a parent and they will give us a yellow sticker.

Adding Decimals
This week have been learning how to add decimals and times decimals. The easy part is to work out the problem because I use place value to work my thinking. The hard part is to answer the question without working my thinking. What you need to know to be successful is use place value to work it out, remember that you have to carry number higher then 9, remember to always add from right to left other wise you will get it wrong.

Cross country training.
Cross country training
In week 6 and 7 we were training for cross country but we called it fun run because it wasn't just all running. We were training at school because that's where we always train. We use to run around the domain and that was hard. Now we run the block or we can do fitness and I chose to do fitness because last year we always use to run, so I thought of trying something new which was fitness. All we had to do was keep our body moving. It was only our class and a few other classes doing their own fitness. I really liked doing the fitness it was really tiring but it was worth it and really fun. We only added in fitness because they thought it would help people that can't run but can do fitness.

Project Island Song.
Today I am writing about our trip to Urupukapuka island. I learned that Gannets live in Pohutakawa trees and different types of seagulls, also interesting facts about them e.g habitat and diets. I experienced that if you don't STOP, CHECK then GO you might actually might take something over there to attract the pest's. Such as Rats and Stoats. I think what I can do to bring back native birds and native trees is keep the pests away and stop littering because if litter it will go down the drains and in to the Ocean.
